Back at the old days stockings were manufactured by cutting the fabric and then sewing it together. This way, the stockings would be made with a seamed line at the back of them. Now-days there are modern way to create stockings without the seamed line but for a particular fashion look a fake or mock seam is sometimes added up the back of the stockings. The action of aligning the seamed line of the stockings is considered very feminine and sometimes even seductive.
